Medical Warning System
Purpose and Function

As stated in Technical Regulations Article 8.10, each car must be fitted with a warning light connected to the FIA data logger in order to give rescue crews an immediate indication of accident severity.
The light must face upwards and be recessed into the top of the survival cell, no more than 150mm from the car centre line and the front of the cockpit opening, near to the clutch disengagement system. The light is activated if the impact force exceeds 18 g.
Origins of the System
The idea to implement the medical warning light came from one of the most dedicated figures in Formula 1 safety, Doctor Sidney “Sid” Watkins, whose campaign for safety improvements in motorsport never ceased.
